Here’s everyone’s favourite low-budget airline, Ryanair, deploying some low-budget techniques as they attempt to get one of their cloud-crates off the ground – taping a window shut ahead of a voyage from Stansted to Riga in Latvia.But it was all to no avail as the voyage was aborted after only 20 minutes when the tape began to come loose and make disturbing noises. The Irish Aviation Authority have said that the tape was deployed as an added precaution to secure a new window seal. Ryanair themselves have said that they and Sky Marshall O’Leary do not comment on routine technical issues, choosing instead to use the media for brazen acts of self-publicity.
But passenger Anthony Neal, 33, of Bromley, Kent, told The Sun: “We were kept in the dark, and were terrified. I could see guys taping in the windscreen with what looked like duct tape or gaffer tape. We were in the sky, then the pilot said due to damage on the windscreen, we were going to have to turn back.”
Meanwhile former pilot John Guntrip said: “This could have been disastrous, the pilot could have been sucked out mid-air if the window had come off.”
Everyone’s worst fear isn’t it – being sucked off in mid-air. Sorry, out. Sucked out. Ahem…
